Stingray Swimmers Burn In The New Year
Braving the elements of a blistering-cold Cayman winter, Stingray Swimmers dove into action with the first competition of 2013 at the Burn in the New Year Burner Meet held Friday, January 18 at the Lion's Pool.
Squalls of rain poured down with coinciding winds, forcing the competitiors, spectators and volunteers to huddle up and seek shelter. But although the weather wasn't burning, many swimmers still blazed through the frigid waters and did so with smiles on their faces.
"It's good to fight the elements from time to time," said Coach Andy Copley, "it makes you tougher and more resilient. You don't expect a lot of amazing times in a situation like that, but all things considered, the kids swam pretty darn well. A lot of PB's from the younger kids, which was exciting to see. They've been putting in a lot of quality work lately, and it's starting to pay off."
Stingray will host their February Sprint Meet Plus in two weeks. Sign up will be available later today!
