Stingray close Jamaica Meet with best performance yet
In an exciting and action packed final day of competition, Stingray swimmers rose to the occasion one more time at the Jamaica Christmas Open.
24 swims in total today and 23 personal bests. 3 gold medals, 1 silver, 3 bronze...
Ashley Theaker and Katie Klein got the action started once again today in the 400 free by placing 2nd and 3rd overall. This time it was a role reversal though as Ashley (5:06.59) broke away and almost tracked down the leader to finish with Silver, with Katie (5:13.0) coming in close behind for Bronze. Both girls dropped just over 7 seconds in the race.
Catriona Macrae made it a clean sweep of the Backstroke events by capturing gold in the 50 backstroke in a lifetime best of 33.7
Iain McCallum found his stride in the 200 distance of the Butterfly, dropping 8 seconds off his previous best and striking Gold. Iain put a whooping on the competition, coming in first place by over 12 seconds.
The race of the day belonged to Alex McCallum though, who again took down the meet record in the 400 Freestyle, swimming a time of 4:20.07. Not only did Alex break the meet record and swim a personal best by over 15 seconds, he also qualified for the Loughborough University Swim Team. Alex took a gap year to train here on the island with this purpose in mind. Congratulations Alex, we are all very proud of you!
Thanks to everybody who has wished the swimmers well. It was an amazing weekend and amazing experience for them. Now on to the real fun... RED v. GREEN!!!!
