Chris Courtis qualifies for Canadian Interuniversity Sports Championship

Continuing his impressive roll in the 2012-2013 swim season at Wilfred-Laurier University, Stingray swimmer Chris Courtis qualified for the CIS Championship Meet (Canadian equivalent to NCAA Champs in the U.S.) by dropping his 50m backstroke time twice in two swims today.

Courtis started his Saturday at the Ontario University Athletics Swimming Championships in Toronto by swimming a 26.91 in his preliminary heat, good enough to qualify him for the A Final in 8th place. 26.91 was just .09 outside the qualifying time for CIS. Chris came back in tonight's final though and stormed the pool, dropping just enough time to reach his qualifying mark, swimming a 26.71 and placing 8th overall. One more day of competition

Chris also swam lifetime bests already in the 200 backstroke (2:07.01), the 100 backstroke (58.19), and the 200 IM (2:09.44).

CIS will be held in Calgary, Alberta on February 21-23. Live results and updates will be available.
