Stingray powers through final day of competition in Jam Rock!
It was another power-packed session at the Jamaican National Swim Stadium on Sunday for Stingray swimmers, concluding a successful meet on the heels of the Pete Ribbins Memorial Meet coming up this weekend.
Stingray was led off by Iain McCallum's silver medal performance in the 200 Butterfly (2:32), a respectable time given the older kids state of training! McCallum prefers short course events and said he is greatly looking forward to coming home to more walls. Andrew Smilley followed close behind to finish 4th.
Marisa Poole chopped off nearly 5 seconds in the 50 breaststroke, bettering her short course time and finishing in 11th. Corey Westerborg continued to dominate the 8&Under boys division by smoking the competition the 50 breaststroke (50.91), also knocking off four more seconds from his previous best.
Ali Jackson also continued her golden streak by dusting the competition in the 50 breast. Her time of 43.37 was good enough for gold, a new club record, and a new CIASA record. Krishna Adapa jumped WAY up the rankings to finish 6th in the boys 50, dropping 6 seconds. Adapa was just barely outside the top Cayman finisher, who finished 5th, a major improvement for Adapa.
Sarah Jackson and Stefanie Boothe rolled in the 100 breaststroke, both swimming new CARIFTA times of 1:30 and 1:31 respectively. Not to be outdone, Alex Dakers came to bat in the boys 100 Breaststroke, placed 3rd overall, and got his third CARIFTA time of the weekend, clocking in at 1:30.99.
Westerborg and Ali Jackson kept up their blistering pace in the 50 freestyle, Westerborg winning in commanding fashion, making it a perfect 6 golds in 6 events, while Jackson came in 3rd place in the girls 9-10 division in 32.99. Ali's time was a AAA time standard and was good enough for another club and CIASA record. Ria Plunkett also powered down the pool in the 50 free, finishing the weekend with her best performance of the meet, dropping 2 full seconds (36.89) and jumping up the standings to 9th place.
Sam Bailey proved her prowess again in the 50 free, thundering to a 2nd place finish and chopping off a full second (30.53), also a AAA time (and just barely off the CIASA record). Stefanie, Sarah and Ella also blazed through the water to finish 6th, 7th and 8th, respectively, each dropping time in the event.
The four girls went on to rip apart the competition again in the 4x100 Medley Relay, each posting impressive swims in line with their personal bests, coming in at 5:20, nearly taking down the meet record. Lapping two different in the race, their next closest opponent was 27 seconds behind.

Congratulations to all the swimmers and a huge thank you to Derrick Westerborg for planning and organizing a wonderful trip. Also a big thanks to Sheena Westerborg and Linday Key for all 11,000 BBM messages, which kept Stingray the most up to date, up to the moment swim team on the planet. And thanks to all the supportive parents who helped out from start to finish in making the trip a successful one. The kids had a blast, the coach had a blast. It was a worthwhile adventure!
