Relays Highlight Excitement at MLM Finale
The 13-Over Boys provided heart-stopping action today during the 4x100 Freestyle relay in what turned out to be the most exciting, pulse-pounding race of the 2013 Mike Lockwood Invitational. Split evenly between the A&B teams, Stingrays 13-Over boys relays both held off a charging CBAC relay, anchored by two of their coaches. Simon Butler found a familiar burst of strength in the last 10 meters of the race to somehow will himself and Stingray to a 1-2 sweep of the event. A very Butler-esque trait. Take note young Stingray swimmers!! The excitement on both sides of the pool was palpable and will not be soon forgotten! A very special moment for the meet.
Stingray swimmers did it right all day long, blasting off in style with a fantastic set of 200 freestyles. The most impressive of which came from Stefanie Boothe, dropping 14 seconds, Ria Plunkett, dropping 12 seconds and of course, Alison Jackson who dropped a whopping 22 seconds.
Then it was on to the backstroke, which saw Ella Plunkett chop 4 seconds her previous best, take first place for 13-14 girls, just narrowly missing the CARIFTA cut with a time of 1:11.97.
Will Roberts also got into the action today, dropping a casual 27 seconds in his 100 back for a new best of 1:54.18.
Jake Bailey and Sophie Hayman both put up impressive 100 backstroke times as well, Sophie finishing 2nd among the 9-10 girls in a time of 1:33.68, and Jake finishing 1st among the 9-10 boys in a time of 1:31.20.
Alex Dakers and brother Sam continued their stellar meets in the breaststroke events, Alex swimming a lifetime best of 38.54 in the 50 for first place, and Sam swimming to 2nd place in the 25 breaststroke in a time of 25.55.
Once again at the MLM Meet, a number of swimmers hit a 100% PB rate... Huge Congrats to:
