Morgan Leads Boys Charge in Second Session

Cole Morgan powered to an impressive victory in the Open 200 Backstroke this morning, clocking a time of 2:15.98, smashing his previous best and taking down Alex McCallum's old meet record, set just one year ago. Morgan also hit a massive drop in the 100 freestyle, qualifying him for CARIFTA in the event.

Iain McCallum kept the ball rolling by clocking his second pool CARIFTA cut in the 50 butterfly, finishing in a time of 28.48. Iain also went on to clock a 59 in the 100 freestyle, just behind Cole.

Jonathan Key narrowly missed his first CARIFTA cut in the 100 freestyle, posting a new personal best of 1:01.5. Key also dropped in the 50 fly, as well as teammates Alex Dakers, John Bodden and Iain Macrae. Fresh off his first CARIFTA qualifying time, Iain Macrae swam hot again this morning with big drops in both the fly and the 100 breaststroke. Bodden and Dakers also brought him big PB's in both morning swims.

On the girls side, Ella Plunkett struck gold early again, lowering the meet record of the 200 Backstroke by 8 seconds, finishing in a personal best time of 2:38.9. Ella also went on to a 7 second drop in the 100 breaststroke. Younger sister Ria stayed a perfect 3 for 3, bettering her short course 100 free time and lowering her long course PB by 4 seconds. Sam Bailey also swam an impressive 100 freestyle, lowering her personal best and bringing home the gold medal.

In one of the best races of the day, Hayley Roulstone charged home on the second 50 of her 100 freestyle, dropping 4 seconds and claiming a come-from behind victory in her heat. Hayley finished in a time which was also faster than her best short course. Roulstone also dropped in the 50 butterfly to stay perfect for the meet. Miquela Montana dropped 2 seconds in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.

The swimmers are resting well and in high spirits, getting ready for more action tonight at the pool!
