Butler Makes Golden Statement, Punches CARIFTA Ticket
No shave, no taper, no problem. Not for Simon Butler.
Simon came flying out of the gate and held a smoking fast pace throughout his final of the 200 IM, chopping off 12 seconds to capture his first CARIFTA qualifying time as well as the gold medal. Butler will join teammates in Jamaica next week to try and grab more qualifying times.
Sam Bailey and Ella Plunkett, just moments beforehand, also added to their CARIFTA list by clocking PB's in the 200 IM. Sam took the gold medal in a time of 2:34.55 and Ella the silver in 2:35.36. Sam later added a third event by nabbing silver in the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:03.55.
Sarah Jackson took gold in the 50 breaststroke, breaking the CIASA and Stingray record in the process, clocking a time of 37.31 in prelims.
Corey Westerborg broke a third record in three days, taking down Brett Frasers ancient 100 freestyle record. Corey fought to the finish in a close race, taking the silver and posting a time of 1:14.22.
Also posting most notable swims were Lauren Williams, who knocked off three seconds in her 100 freestyle to take gold in a time of 1:06.67, and Ria Plunkett who fought her way to a silver medal in the final 25 of the 100 free to clock another new PB of 1:13.34.
One more day of action! LET'S GO STINGRAY!
