Three Records Tumble on Day 3 in Jamaica

Alison Jackson and Corey Westerborg rewrote the 50 backstroke short course records at the CIASA National Championship, and just over one week later in Jamaica they did it again, this time long course. Corey swam to a 40.35 in the morning session, edging under Brett Frasers record set more than 13 years ago. Alison actually broke the record twice in a row, having been forced to re-swim her race. In the first go-round, there was a false start, but by the time the judges dropped the rope at 15m, Ali had already blazed past it. She was the only one not to stop and clocked a time of 34.05. Fifteen minutes later the heat raced again, and with a fire under her, Ali swam even faster, breaking the CIASA and Stingray records as well as the meet record in a time of 33.52.

In the 8-Under division, Allyson Belfonte cruised in the 50 butterfly to a third place finish overall and her first ever CIASA record, posting a time of 50.32.

The 15-Over boys finished the day today, after an estimated 8000m of swimming with a thrilling first place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The team of Cole Morgan, Brandon Williams, Iain McCallum and Simon Butler pulled one massive swim out of their weary legs to close a deficit in the final 100 meters and touch first in just under 4 minutes.

Stingray holds strong in second place with one more session and one more set of relays to get through. Hold on to your hats folks, the final day is upon us!
