Henry Puts the Cherry On Top, Qualifies for CARIFTA

Stingray swimmers like to make accomplishments in two's evidently. Westerborg and Jackson doubled down on backstroke records in back to back weekends. The 15-17 Boys made a come from behind victory in the Medley relay again today, and in the most unlikely of scenarios, Liam Henry duplicated Monina Thompson's short course 50 Butterfly performance with a Long Course performance in the same event.

At the last possible moment available in the pool, Liam Henry became the 16th member of Stingray to qualify for CARIFTA in Aruba this April. Wearing Bobo's dome cap (the exact same cap Monina wore last weekend), Liam stepped up for a time trial after the final session had ended, hoping to get his cut in the 50 Butterfly. Stingray and CBAC swimmers lined the pool to cheer on Liam and Matthew Somerville of CBAC on their final attempt. Jordan Crooks of CBAC, returning the favor of Iain MacRae last week, volunteered to swim next to Liam to help push him along. Jonathan Key and Brandon Williams volunteered to swim with Matt Somerville to do the same.

Liam charged down the pool in a time of 33.47, more than 2 full seconds under the qualifying time, while Matthew Somerville edged under the time by .4 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Both Cayman clubs played a role in the victories today for Henry and Somerville... It was a moment for Cayman Swimming to be proud of as the teams rejoiced together!

Congratulations to Matthew, and a HUGE congratulations to our own Liam Henry for finding a little bit of magic left in the tank to leave everybody jumping for joy!

Full meet write-up coming tomorrow!
