Stingray's senior swimmers came flying out of the gate in the first night of competition at the 2013 Mike Lockwood Memorial Swim Meet. Led off by Little John Bodden, swimming in his first 800 ever, Stingray made a sweep of both the 800 and 1500 events. John swam a well-paced race, swimming a 200 freestyle PB to his feet in the first 200m of the race. Bodden finished 7th overall in a time of 10:44. Catriona Macrae and Katie Klein also swam excellent races, coming in 4th and 6th respectively....

Four Stingray swimmers competed in the Pirates Week 5k this morning and left quite an impression on the crowd and fellow competitors. All four swimmers finished in the top 9! More notable... Iain McCallum placed 2nd overall behind FINA 10k World Cup Champion Emily Brunneman, winning the men's competition and qualifying for CARIFTA 2014 in a time of 1:08:09 Andrew Smilley placed 2nd in his age group, 3rd for men overall and finished in a time of 1:13:00 Catriona Macrae placed 2nd in her age group and was the 3rd...

Senior Swimmers Cole Morgan and Ashley Theaker were nominated by their peers on Wednesday afternoon and voted in as Team Captains for the 2013-2014 swim year. Congratulations Cole and Ashley. Lots of fun times ahead for you two! 

Stingray swimmers put the hurt on today in the Fosters 800m Sea Swim. The conditions were just right (except for the current) for a season-opening thumping, and the young Stingers delivered... Matthew Courtis led the race overall, putting space between himself and the field immediately and cruising to victory. Matthew Courtis is returning home from Dubai, where he represented Barbados at the Youth World Championship. Courtis swam to lifetime bests in the 400 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Butterfly and 200 Butterfly. After a tough year of battling adversity and finding himself stuck on a plateau, Matthew finished the last three months of his year by making repeated drops and improving upon himself both in and out of the water. Matt will return home to train with Stingray until October when he ships off to Oxford University to study engineering....

Stingray swimmer Matthew Courtis, fresh off is acceptance to Oxford University, has landed in Dubai and is busy training and resting in preparation for the Youth World Championship. Matthew Courtis and Lara Butler have been accepted!!   Last week, both Matthew Courtis and Lara Butler got a bit of good news they've been holding their breath over for quite some time.   Matt has been accepted to Oxford University, one of the most prestigious educational institutes in the world. He will continue to swim while studying engineering.   Lara has been accepted to Loughborough University and will join Alex McCallum and Ian Armiger as a member of the one of the most prestigious swimming programs in Europe!  ...

At the ASA Youth National Championships last week in Sheffield, UK, the medals machine, Geoff Butler, raced to his first Commonwealth Games qualifying time in the 1500 freestyle. Coming off an excellent perofrmance at the NatWest Island Games in Bermuda, Geoffrey kept the fast times rolling to clock a 16:13 in the 1500 at Sheffield, nearly 10 seconds under the qualifying time set by CIASA for Commonwealth. Geoff will head to the games next July, 2014 in Glasgow Scotland. Congratulations Geoff! You've made your family, your team and your country...

Led by Shaune and Brett Fraser, Stingray's elite put on a powerhouse performance in Hamilton Bermuda at the 2013 Island Games. In total, Lara Butler, Geoff Butler, Alex McCallum and the Fraser brothers hauled in 21 medals for the Cayman Islands, including 9 gold and 8 silver. This amount was almost half of the medals won by the Cayman Islands in all sports combined, and matched the most ever by the Cayman Swim Team at the Games.
