Stingray's younger swimmers took to the waters in style and with speed again for the second weekend in a row, but this time in the open water for the first race of the CBAC Sea Swim Series. The first race of the day was the 10 & Unders 200m Sea Swim, led the whole way and won by Stingray's Corey Westerborg! Continuing his impressive roll in the 2012-2013 swim season at Wilfred-Laurier University, Stingray swimmer Chris Courtis qualified for the CIS Championship Meet (Canadian equivalent to NCAA Champs in the U.S.) by dropping his 50m backstroke time twice in two swims today. Courtis started his Saturday at the Ontario University Athletics Swimming Championships in Toronto by swimming a 26.91 in his preliminary heat, good enough to qualify him for the A Final in 8th place. 26.91 was just .09 outside the qualifying time for CIS. Stingray's first two-day Sprint Meet wrapped up Sunday morning with a solid showing from swimmers in all groups and of all levels.  Alison Jackson continued this years roll by capturing two new team records in the 100 free (1:12.5) and the 100 IM (1:23.7), the latter also being a CIASA record. Jackson also came close to CIASA records in all four of her other events. Ella Plunkett and Sam Bailey added to their CARIFTA program. Both had already scored times in the 100 and 200 backstroke, with Bailey also qualified...

It was a cold and very early morning on the East End this past Sunday, where the MercuryMan Half Iron Man Triathlon was held. Despite this, Stingray swimmer Brandon Williams dove into the ocean as part of the team "Untried and Untested." Williams was the second team swimmer out of the water, swimming the rough 1.2 mile course in just over 30 minutes. Though their name may not have suggested their speed, Team Untried and Untested ended up winning the team competition in a time of 4 hours 18 minutes...

Overseas Stingray Swimmer Christopher Courtis competed this past weekend in the Ontario Cup for his college team at Wilfrid Laurier University. Courtis swam six events, bettering most of Lifetimes Best's over the course of the weekend. Unofficial results are as follows (SCM):  50m Fly - 27.49... 50m Backstroke - 27.53... 200m Backstroke - 2:09.25... 100m BAckstroke - 58.55... 200 IM - 2:!2.69... 50m Freestyle - 25.12 Congratulations Chris on a weekend of fast, furious swimming!

Braving the elements of a blistering-cold Cayman winter, Stingray Swimmers dove into action with the first competition of 2013 at the Burn in the New Year Burner Meet held Friday, January 18 at the Lion's Pool. Squalls of rain poured down with coinciding winds, forcing the competitiors, spectators and volunteers to huddle up and seek shelter. Grand Cayman, 13 January 2013: Olympians Liam Tancock, Caitlin McClatchey  and Conor Dwyer took to the sea off World Famous Seven Mile Beach this past weekend  as part of the Cayman Island Amateur Swimming Association’s (CIASA) fund raising  weekend. Over 100 local swimmers swam alongside them – earning bragging rights to  say that they swam with Olympic Swimmers; and Alex McCallum also earned the right to  say he beat a second Olympian when he crossed the finish line :06 ahead of McClatchey. Stingray swimmer Matthew Courtis (17), who swims in the U.K. has recently been accepted into Oxford University for the 2013 Fall Term. Oxford is renowned as one of the highest education institutions in the world. Matthew is excited about his spring term and swimming at CARIFTA, and possibly also at the Island Games in Bermuda. Courtis will be working with his coaches in the U.K. to determine his future in swimming. Congratulations Matthew, you've made Stingray Swim Club very proud!

The Stingray Swim Club was thrilled to welcome more Olympic swimmers to the Lion's Pool this week and through the weekend as part of a CIASA fundraiser. Liam Tancock, world record holder in the 50m backstroke, and Caitlin McClatchey, 3-time finalist in the London Olympics flew to the island from Great Britain to meet up with their old coach Ian Armiger for a long weekend of fun, inspiration and fast swimming.
